I whale always love you

Another cheesy Valentines/anniversary/ greetings card that I designed after quite a few more sketches of whales. Hope you like it! When I get a bit more money in I might stock my Etsy with these.

Whales!

I've had another idea for a greetings card themed around whales, so I've been sketching a few as a nice relaxing weekend activity. Tomorrow I think that I'll perhaps try to mock one up and see how that goes. I love drawing cetaceans :-) their shapes feel so smooth and defined... Something that I also love is drawing from plastic figures- they're not flexiable, sure, but for subjects that are difficult to photograph (like whales) or don't exist anymore (like dinosaurs), they provide an accessible tool to study perspectives. I've had my eye on this one from Schleich for a while now. They USED to sell it in Waterstones, but when my boyfriend went to purchase it for me as a valentines' gift (he's sweet like that :-)) they didn't have it anymore. http://www.schleich-s.com/en/GB/toys/blue_whale/

Anyway! Enough with my wittering!

Gender neutral toys?

An illustration in progress that I'm working on about gender neutral toys. Hopefully I'll have this completed tomorrow, but for now I'm off to bed.

I've also been trying him out with different eyes, such as the above.

Recipes

Food illustration, recipe is from the book "Beyond Baked Bean Green', by Fiona Beckett (this is just a mockup spread).

I have felines for you

Another cat themed Valentines day card that I designed. I had this idea a while ago- I'm thinking of reworking some of my others and trying to get them licensed. Wish me luck!

Bridal hair

So I thought that I might as well blog about this :-)
I created it last week, whilst expanding my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. I taught myself to add textures, and well as working on my skills in fashion illustration. I found the bridal hair styles on Pintrest- which is a GREAT tool, I've come to find; and I created my illustrations inspired by them.

Illustration Friday- sleep

So again, this is just another wee sketch, so that I can get it done on a Friday (as well as other stuff). The topic is 'Sleep', and I've illustrated a tiger sleeping with a baby because... well I love big cats. I've been sketching them a lot lately, and I love the idea of them curled up with something vulnerable. I MIGHT go ahead and do a full colour piece for my folio, but for now, this is what I've got.

Illustration Friday- noise

So I completed this quickie today (on the Sunday), it's just a scribble, but I've been a busy bee! This week's topic is/ was- noise. I had a brain storm (are we allowed to say that anymore?), but what really popped into my head was my kitty Moomin. The noise of him calling when he hears us in the morning, even going to the loo sets him off, and he'll make noise for hours (I'm not exaggerating) until we get up. As I say- mock up style here, scribbly graphite etc. But I am kind of fond of it. I with I could create a children's book in graphite monochrome... maybe I should do a comic some day. Anyways- thoughts thoughts thoughts! Must get on with life.

Bridal dress illustrations

So I'm continuing to work on my submissions. Freelancing is a tough gig, but one I feel confident that I will (eventually) crack!

Bridal stuff

Today I am working on submissions for bridal magazines. People have never been my strongest point, adult people even less so... I really hope that she doesn't look like I child bride. Also I'm trying to work more in digital with different brushes that I've created from scanning my mark making in.

Oh well. Wish me luck! (still tweeking this a wee bit, but here we are!)

Editorial post 2

Running to lose weight. So here's the second idea- a clothes hanger running to get smaller/ drop a dress size. I really wanted to draw the fingers splayed, but running like that would just be awkward (ignoring the whole being a clothes hanger thing)...

Based on this article here

Colour collective

I know this is a bit early, but here's this week's "Colour Collective"- flame red.

I'm trying to expand my editorial folio

This one's on not losing the expected amount of weight from running. I have another idea which I will post soon!

I went running this morning in -5c conditions. It was the first time I had done it, and it was trickier than I thought it would be.
